Project feature - A Girl's
Dream Life
Project Chairman: Elle
Beliso Ranas

In a perfect world, all young girls would be
loved, cared for and
nurtured by their families. However, many young
women suffer abuse
and abandonment, and are
left to fend for themselves. In response to the
plight of young women in the community, Soroptimists
in Lucena City, Philippines, came to the aid of
girls living in Girl's Crisis Center DSWD, Zaballero
Subdivision, Lucena City.
The club project benefited 20
young girls, ages 3 to 14, who were abandoned by
their parents. Many of the girls were homeless and
begging on the streets, while others were victims of
physical and sexual abuse. In order to facilitate
recovery and rehabilitation, the club refurbished
household furniture, and purchased new mattresses,
bedding, clothing, hygiene supplies and computers
for the facility. The club also helped fund the
salary of an additional social worker for the
center.
This project is in cooperation of
Soroptimist Club Grant from Soroptimist
International of the Americas.
The project “improved girls'
social and economic status and quality of life, and
gave the girls a greater feeling of being loved and
cared for.”
