It
was the biennium of orientation, adapting to club
membership, getting adjusted and acquainted,
learning club administration and procedures,
internalizing the pledge, studying how best to
attain the goals and objectives, all of which were
ultimately breed Soroptimist leaders who were to
usher in professionalism and excellence that paved
the way for making a difference for woman.
In
1972, there were only four clubs in the Philippines,
Davao, Manila, Baguio and Naga. We were only a
council for it required 30 clubs to make a region.
Founder President Mariquit Castelo has passed on the
gavel to Justice Lourdes San Diego. Mariquit never
faltered in her quest for more clubs. There was
Rocky Munda, who spread Soroptimist in Mindanao,
Dir. Baluyot and Odette Guillermo in Manila, Grace
De guia up north. Mariquits full resources with Girl
Scouts caused the spread up Sorptimist in Bulacan
and Central Luzon. Those early years focused on
membership growth, organizing foundation. Venture
and Developing fund resources. By 1976 we were at
par with other new clubs, all working earnestly for
recognition and fulfillment of goals. SI Iriga who
had by then cut off the umbilical completely and
decimally, Failed to wean properly.
There werent any specified areas of service from the
federation as we have now. Dorothy Kissenger who
composed the music and lyrics of Soroptimist
Symphony was the Federation President. She focused
program on integration of women in the legal and
economic policy as well as raising the status of
women in the rural areas.
